The development of technologies based on fossil fuels has changed the way the richest countries ruling the world live and behave. Not that anyone would rather return to the Stone Age, but when we recognize the physical limitations of planet Earth, we understand that those who will suffer are not only the forms of biodiversity we destroy every day, but humankind itself.
While the consequences will not appear instantly, they will come if nothing changes—and it will be the future generations who bear them. We now have all the knowledge to understand that the lifestyle promoted by the wealthiest only adds to the burdens that future human beings will have to struggle with.
Do we care so much about ourselves that we willingly endanger the lives of our children?
Not consciously, for most. And this is where the idea of living a simple life can play a role.
