Why Balance is key?

Balance is necessary to develop our brain most efficiently

All the elements–awareness, learning, fitness, social relations and willpower–that contribute to the health of our brain should be developed in a balanced way

Let’s work on the five elements in a balanced way

It is essential to develop even the elements in which we are weak

Why is it important to balance our efforts

I had always wondered and was amazed at how the people I thought as remarkable were doing great in all disciplines : they were good athletes, could understand difficult concepts or were brilliant at school, could play an instrument and also were the nicest persons ever : how can they be so “perfect”? I thought to myself they were just lucky to be born with good genetics (which isn’t totally wrong), or a good environment (which isn’t totally wrong either).
But taking the picture from another side, wasn’t it because they started to act on their fitness, on their social relations or on their studies that it seemed to me they were naturally talented? They were doing their best with what they were granted with.

With our limited time in mind, as safe as possible, we want to try to do our best to use our time in an efficient way.

Olympism is the celebration and harmonization in a balanced whole of the qualities of body, mind, and will.

Awareness

There is a paradox with awareness: too much of it, and you become unaware, blinded by your newfound state of consciousness.

This can lead to arrogance or condescension, so we must always remain mindful of our awareness.

Learning

It is essential to learn as much as we can. The more knowledge we acquire, the easier things become.

While there’s no direct issue with learning ‘too much,’ all the time spent learning is also time not spent taking action.

Fitness

We want to at least compensate for the loss of muscle mass and strength that naturally occurs as we age.

However, over-exercising can lead to injuries, which ultimately becomes counterproductive.

Social Relations

Human beings are social creatures. While some crave social interaction more than others, we all have a need for connection.

However, spending too much time on social interactions can often turn communication into gossip.

Willpower

Every intentional action requires a measure of willpower. This is why it’s essential to nurture it, so we can act when the time comes.

However, too much willpower can lead to reckless behavior or cause us to lose touch with reality.
