We just started watching the anime version of Kimetsu no Yaiba, a manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge, published from 2016 to 2020. The animation is quite beautiful, and I already liked some of the theme songs of the anime, but I had not yet read the manga.
What Makes Breath Such a Powerful Tool?
One of the aspects I wanted to talk about was the breathing style, which allows the protagonists to unleash powerful techniques against demons. Breath is one of the few tools we have in our kit to actively and in real time control our physiology: we cannot, for example, consciously control our digestion or our healing process. Of course, we breathe naturally without paying attention to it, but we also have the ability to focus on our breath and alter its rhythm or intensity to influence our behavior.
How Can the Physiological Sigh Help Us?
A powerful tool is the physiological sigh, which Andrew Huberman has demonstrated many times. It consists of a long inhale through the nose, followed by another short one, and a long exhale through the mouth. This technique helps the nervous system relax and can significantly reduce stress.

Meditation also relies heavily on breath, and we now understand its profound benefits on the brain. Can Mastering Breath Lead to Personal Growth?
Just as the characters in Kimetsu no Yaiba use their breath to grow stronger, recognizing that we have access to a tool we can control at any moment can be a tremendous asset in our daily lives. Mastering our breath might not give us superhuman abilities, but it can empower us in ways that are just as transformative.
