In The Matrix, Morpheus accompanies Neo to meet the Oracle, who is believed to predict the future of those who consult her. While Morpheus firmly believes that Neo is the One, Neo himself is uncertain. When they reach the door leading to the Oracle’s apartment, Morpheus tells Neo that he can only show him the door—Neo must open it himself.
We Need to Open It Ourselves
We can offer support, guidance, and assistance to others, but ultimately, it is up to the individual to take action. In life, we face many choices—each a door we can choose to open or leave closed. These decisions are ours alone, and we should not blame others if the outcome isn’t what we expected. There will always be other doors to explore, leading to different paths and opportunities, and these too will be shaped by our choices.
Forcing someone to act will not yield results. The willingness to act is crucial, and while external support from a parent, teacher, or friend can ease the process, the initial step must come from within. If we wish others to follow our example, we must first demonstrate the correct attitude ourselves and open our own doors.
Personal Advice
During my “dark age,” I had a tendency to blame others and harbor resentment, even if I didn’t express it openly. In arguments or difficult discussions, I often pretended to take the blame while internally believing that I was right and the other person should apologize instead. Reflecting on this behavior fills me with shame. We all have the opportunity and choice to avoid such attitudes. Let’s strive to genuinely acknowledge our mistakes and work on improving ourselves.
