I first discovered Uplift Spice through their song Kanojo, introduced by the now-defunct French television channel, NoLife TV. Despite not being as famous as the major hits dominating the Japanese music scene, their music left a lasting impression. I was surprised when a drummer friend of mine turned out to be a big fan of this band. We often talked about covering their songs, but unfortunately, we never made it happen. However, he did introduce me to one of his favorite tracks—Justice.
Like many of Uplift Spice’s songs, Justice is upbeat, fast-paced, and technical. The bassline alone demanded a lot of practice on my part, and my friend was captivated by the drummer’s exceptional skill—a sentiment I quickly came to share. While I don’t always focus on lyrics initially, the singer’s distinctive voice drew me in, prompting me to delve deeper into the meaning behind Justice.
Analyzing the Lyrics of “Justice”
The title Justice contrasts sharply with its grim and complex content, presenting a powerful critique of societal systems that claim fairness while fostering inequality, greed, and corruption.
The song opens with chilling imagery, referencing organ trafficking, illegal firearm distribution, and bankruptcy assistance through corrupt organizations. These vivid descriptions paint a bleak picture of an underworld where human lives and morality are systematically devalued.
Phrases like “fighting and becoming entangled, disordered” and “the sound of bone and skin separating” evoke the violence and chaos bred by greed and systemic corruption. Meanwhile, the recurring metaphor of “flowers blooming in the darkness” smiling at gold represents the seductive allure of wealth and power, even when tainted. The “scent” luring individuals into this world symbolizes how temptation leads to inevitable demise.
Themes of rebellion, double agents, and private punishments suggest resistance against these corrupt systems, yet they highlight the brutal cycles of violence perpetuated by such efforts. The song explores the struggle between survival and morality, showing how greed twists the human spirit, turning people into either participants or victims of an unjust world.
Bridging Lyrics with Real-World Lessons
At One Daily Tale, we believe that equality should not remain a lofty ideal, but a foundational principle for building better societies. While Justice may seem distant from individual concerns, it resonates deeply with the steps we can take personally.
By nurturing healthy habits for our brain, we can cultivate awareness of the systems we live in. This awareness allows us to shift perspectives—from the narrow lens of our own country to that of a global citizen, where inequality worldwide becomes our concern. Understanding this brings clarity: working for a better world isn’t a win-loss game, but a win-win scenario.
Today’s society often functions as a win for the corrupt and privileged, while increasing the sense of loss for the less fortunate. While differences in genetics or circumstances may never vanish, building societies focused on well-being and fundamental needs will bring equality into clearer view.
A Vision for Equality and Unity
Providing low-cost or free access to fundamental needs can bridge gaps in education and opportunity, uniting humanity toward the common goal of wellness. With this unity, we can transform inequality into progress, not just for some, but for all.
What steps do you think we, as individuals or collectively, can take to reduce inequality in our societies? Share your thoughts in the comments!
