…it is folly to be wise.
Cha Cha reflected on this sentence. It was written in the 18th century by an English poet.
At that time, all energy sources were renewable, with little risk of real damage to the environment, as everything was powered by natural elements or living beings.
Sadly, history also shows that this “blissful ignorance” took the form of slavery in many parts of the world.
Is that truly bliss?
Almost three centuries after this poem was written, leaps in technology have led to a better quality of life for many.
But again, ignorance—this time of the damage we are causing to our shared Earth—is leading to devastating consequences in the form of climate change.
We can already feel it wherever we live: flooding, forest fires, heatwaves, hailstorms, tornadoes, and more. All are becoming stronger and more frequent.
Is it folly to be wise?
