For the purpose of the day’s lesson, Faya asked the Espers to think of a desperate situation in which their lives would be on the line.
Some thought of being badly wounded after a fierce magical conflict. Others imagined themselves trapped on a deserted island, with no possible use of magic and only limited resources.
Faya would say, “The goal here is to focus on what you would be able to do in such situations.”
“What do you mean?”
“Normally, when your life isn’t at stake, you don’t naturally use everything you are capable of. This is how we work.”
“But when a situation becomes desperate, those restrictions are lifted, because you have no other choice—your life is in danger.”
“So, should we put ourselves in such situations to grow?” asked a slightly frightened Esper.
“This is a great question. Now that Esperia is at peace, such situations won’t happen every morning. But if you remember that your willpower develops much more when you are cornered, you may be more willing to try new challenges and confront adversity.”
