A Glimmer of Hope

Now that Esperia had been rebuilt on new foundations, which seemed obvious to have been put in place after careful reflection, thinking back to the world as it had been just before the War of Chaos seemed unreal.

How could we possibly have behaved like that?” wondered a young Esper, incredulous as he studied the history of a past that was not so distant.

“Did we really have to go as far as that War, which caused so much damage to the planet, but also decimated the population?” wondered another.

These were difficult questions to answer. It is often easy to have the benefit of hindsight once events have passed, but anticipating the consequences of their actions was not the natural way for Espers to think. They were far more concerned with seeing the direct and immediate results.

If the War of Chaos seemed as though it could have been avoided, it was also exceptional circumstances that had made possible the renewal of Esperia: the discovery of that glimmer of hope that would change the face of their planet.

The StarDust.

Understanding that it existed within every Esper, and that by developing it, each one could then perceive their Shadow and begin to tame it, had radically transformed their civilization, which until then had been blind to the consequences of its actions on nature and on its own society.

“How many have died in useless wars. How many have polluted the seas and oceans, the forests, the mountains. How many have wiped out other species, often just for pleasure…”

This glimmer of hope brought by the StarDust was very real, but also extremely fragile: it could be forgotten, causing the civilization of the Espers to return to its natural state…

Their Shadow.

A long time ago, when Shala first witnessed Chaos reigning— with the Five Elements and the Espers fighting tirelessly for thousands of years — she would never have dreamt that it would one day become the land of peace and harmony: Esperia. In another universe, on Earth, Cha Cha was reading The Tales of the…

When the StarDust first appeared before the Five Elements, and the Espers who had battled for an endless time, it brought an eerie sensation of plenitude and stillness. In just a few hundred years, the use—and abuse—of fossil fuels to develop “human civilization” has shaped a world whose dire consequences we can only begin to fathom. If you live in a wealthy and politically stable country—one that has almost certainly reached this state through environmental…

Simba, our lovely little monkey-like creature, heard something extremely valuable. Not only does the body have limits, but so does the mind! If you exercise too much, it can lead to injuries. The same is true for mental health. The mind is like a reservoir that can fill with all kinds of emotions. Sometimes it…

Eklea, the Shape of Awareness, often reminded her students that the Initial Condition of a situation has a significant impact on its outcome. Does that seem obvious? Perhaps—if you’ve thought about it. Does it mean we are bound by where we start? Of course not. But realizing that the starting point is not the same…

    Where ignorance is bliss…

…it is folly to be wise. Cha Cha reflected on this sentence. It was written in the 18th century by an English poet. At that time, all energy sources were renewable, with little risk of real damage to the environment, as everything was powered by natural elements or living beings. Sadly, history also shows that…

    The Chaos War

It took quite a long time before the Shape of Balance, Atma, and the meaning behind the word “Balance” finally became one of the accepted and evident keys to harmony in Esperia. In principle, it’s simple! In a world with limited resources, there is a clear need for restraint among the living beings who share,…
