A Nonconformist Spirit

Mako had not always possessed the nonconformist spirit that led her to lead the rebellion against Emperor Taseki’s regime.

On the contrary, she had been well integrated into the ultra-materialistic society that had emerged after years of using fire magic, bringing about unprecedented technological progress.

Fire magic was one of the most powerful among the different elements, but it was also one of the most voracious in its consumption of Aether.

Tsuruko, a childhood friend, worked in a research laboratory studying the effects of the use of magic on the environment.

While the people of the world, blinded by their astonishing progress and by the promises of wealth and glory that came with it, had become almost incapable of thinking critically, he had preserved the nonconformist spirit that drove him to better understand the true nature of magic.

He thus became the pioneer who uncovered the link between the consumption of Aether and the use of magic, and began to emphasize the importance of Aether for the lives of the many species inhabiting Esperia.

But a nonconformist spirit does not please everyone, especially those who benefit the most from the ignorance of the masses about the true reality of the situation.

He quickly became the target of threats, directed not only at him but also at those close to him.

He was then faced with an extremely difficult dilemma: continue trying to reveal the truth, or remain silent and yield to repression…
