Bringing the Five Elements Together

The world before the Chaos War had placed great emphasis on an extreme specialization among the Espers, often in a single element.

While this may have brought some benefits at first glance, one thing was now clear: it was necessary to bring the five elements together to reveal the Shadow that lies within each of them.

The quest for the five elemental artifacts allowed all Espers to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of each element.

While theory could be learned, real experience was essential.

It allowed them to communicate with Espers from other elements, and to realize that they were similar, and that they could be closer to us than others who nevertheless belonged to the same element.

It also allowed them to become more humble about the extent of their own knowledge: each element had developed its own technologies and its own language.

Magic now allowed all Espers to communicate easily with one another, regardless of their element.

But this was very recent, and the world before the war had shown how communication difficulties could first give rise to fear and suspicion.

The initiatory quest across the world to recover the legendary artifacts was therefore a moment of exchange, of learning about others, but also, and perhaps above all, of learning more about oneself, and finally perceiving the Shadow that resides within each Esper.

Atma found in Shala the figure of an older sister, someone with whom she could share her vision of the world. Once in a Lifetime

Shala would ask the young Espers what came to their minds when thinking about events that occur only once in a lifetime. This was when Faya stepped…

There was a saying that Kenko liked a lot, and though it did not directly concern health, she appreciated the idea behind it, as it reflected the principles taught by the other Shapes as well. “You should be grateful for the little things you receive — whether it is simple lodging or a meal.” Kenko…

Eklea liked to use concrete examples to explain abstract notions that were difficult to grasp, especially for the younger Espers. This time, she used the example of a one-versus-one game played by two Espers. The game had a lot of depth, and a well-timed move could completely change the tide of the match. She said,…

    Pure and Upright

The Five Elements were representations of the dimensional layers that had to be blended in order to truly understand one’s inner self. Empathy was one of them, and when the Seven Shapes worked on a good description of compassion, they thought about what they saw in Gurumin: pureness. Her character and attitude were pure and…

    Improve each other

The Espers soon understood that a good way to grow was to do so alongside others. Why? Because rivalry can spark motivation, creating a natural positive cycle in which the more you improve, the more others do as well. Vati and Faya also knew that sometimes competition could become too harsh, and they reminded the…
