Bringing the Five Elements Together

The world before the Chaos War had placed great emphasis on an extreme specialization among the Espers, often in a single element.

While this may have brought some benefits at first glance, one thing was now clear: it was necessary to bring the five elements together to reveal the Shadow that lies within each of them.

The quest for the five elemental artifacts allowed all Espers to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of each element.

While theory could be learned, real experience was essential.

It allowed them to communicate with Espers from other elements, and to realize that they were similar, and that they could be closer to us than others who nevertheless belonged to the same element.

It also allowed them to become more humble about the extent of their own knowledge: each element had developed its own technologies and its own language.

Magic now allowed all Espers to communicate easily with one another, regardless of their element.

But this was very recent, and the world before the war had shown how communication difficulties could first give rise to fear and suspicion.

The initiatory quest across the world to recover the legendary artifacts was therefore a moment of exchange, of learning about others, but also, and perhaps above all, of learning more about oneself, and finally perceiving the Shadow that resides within each Esper.
