Choosing Is Difficult

Faya, the Shape of Willpower and a great element of Fire, had chosen this title to lead a debate about taking responsibility and the choices each Esper had to make regarding it.

Even though the end of the Chaos War had brought a brief moment of communion for all, with the StarDust appearing before everyone’s eyes, the inertia of the system had made that moment as brief as a firework.

It was in this context that the Seven Shapes tried every day to rebalance the system, so that moments of unity would not be fleeting, but would instead become the norm.

For one thing was certain: making choices is difficult.

When one has no choice, it is simple: one simply has to act, because there are no other alternatives.

But civilization had evolved, giving the Espers of the whole world choices that seemed infinite in their combinations, when considered on a global scale.

An individual’s choices, already numerous over the course of a day, often influence those of others, and globalization now meant that, in the end, one person’s actions could, in a completely indirect way, influence the choices of other people on the other side of the planet.

Choosing is difficult.

And very often, the Espers could not see the consequences of their choices, caught up in their own daily lives.

That was why it was now important for the elemental realms to agree on the values and principles that would finally bring all the Espers of the world into alignment…

    Failures

There is a certain irony in how the human brain works: for us to learn and grow, we also need to fail personally. Babies do it naturally when trying to grab objects, sit up, or learn how to walk: they try, fail, try again, fail again… When this was understood by the Espers on Esperia,…

    The “Modern World”

But when we understand that the resources…
