Five Elements, Yet One Species

For all the Espers on the planet, understanding that the five elements were only parts of a greater whole, and that they all belonged to a single species, was still difficult.

Centuries upon centuries of conflict, of calling others barbarians, of fearing what they saw as a backward civilization, would not simply disappear from people’s minds overnight, especially while hateful speeches spreading fear of others continued to be part of everyday life across the planet.

Cha Cha, our platypus friend, saw this problem as inevitable unless education changed on this subject.

Indeed, if each element continued to promote only its own sovereignty, it would continue to fuel fear of others and seek to assert its authority over them.

Of course, differences do exist. But beyond those differences, there is only one single species.

And this truth had simply not been discovered until very recently.

Just as with many other discoveries, people would have to make a genuine effort to change their way of thinking so that empathy could naturally grow—not only toward their own element, but toward the others as well.

“There are now global problems that can only be solved through unity, regardless of element. That is why there is an unavoidable need to work together and find a solution as quickly as possible.

For time is running out…

The intensive use of magic over the past few years has dealt an irreversible blow to the planet’s ecosystem.

And allowing things to continue in the same direction as before the War of Chaos will not improve the situation,” he thought, anxious about the future of generations to come.

    To Wipe the Slate Clean

This concept was understood to be crucial for the development of harmony in Esperia. Shala, in particular, was the initiator of this, for she knew that if time was not taken to reflect on the past and to move forward, grudges and resentments would always linger in the Shadow of every Esper— even in the…

    Leader by Example

Kenko, the Shape of Health and the Element of Earth, wasn’t the most eloquent of the Shapes. Her lessons were often very practical, and though she didn’t think much about it, she was the type who led by example. Of course, using one’s own body requires more than words. For exercise, theory alone isn’t enough—you…

    The Shadow
