How Does Walking with You by Novelbright Reflect the Importance of Social Relationships and Brain Health?

How can music help us connect with others?

I discovered Novelbright quite recently through their song Walking with You, which Alexa often played when I asked for music. The energy of the song immediately caught my attention, and it soon became a favorite of mine to sing at karaoke with my wife. Novelbright embodies the classic J-rock sound, featuring a vocalist capable of reaching impressive high-pitched notes. The song’s theme revolves around how someone else’s words can resonate deeply within us. Interestingly, while love is a common theme in such songs, the music video (PV) presents the story from a friendship perspective, adding a unique layer to its message.

Why are social relationships crucial for brain health?

At One Daily Tale, we emphasize the significance of brain health, and while I have recently focused a lot on awareness, I recognize that social relationships are just as vital for developing neuroplasticity. Humans are inherently social creatures, and while spending time alone is essential—particularly for developing self-awareness—it is equally important to cultivate empathy, actively listen to others, and withhold judgment. This is especially crucial for those with children. Babies and young children are highly sensitive to emotional cues from their caregivers, learning how to socialize and develop empathy through their earliest interactions. Since people tend to mimic those close to them, the environment they grow up in plays a defining role in shaping their ability to form meaningful relationships.

How do relationships shape personal growth?

I wouldn’t have started One Daily Tale if not for my wife. While I would love to frame the story like a fairy tale, the reality is that it all began with a major argument between us. That conflict led me to deep introspection, ultimately revealing that my social skills were weaker than I had assumed. In general social settings, I functioned normally, but I had never truly learned how to build and sustain a relationship, nor how to create a future as a couple rather than just as an individual. This realization was eye-opening. Understanding how to navigate relationships requires effort and growth, just like any other aspect of maintaining a healthy brain.

Why does society undervalue deep relationships?

Our modern society often fails to promote the importance of nurturing deep social bonds, yet many psychological traumas stem from neglected relationships during childhood. If these wounds go unaddressed, they can evolve into lifelong burdens or even mental health challenges in adulthood. A partner plays a unique role in our lives; unlike friends or acquaintances who may come and go, a partner is someone who shares both life’s storms and its moments of joy. They are often the ones who see through our insecurities and flaws, offering a mirror to our own emotional struggles. This is why cherishing our partner is not just about maintaining a happy relationship—it is also one of the best things we can do for our brain health.
