Robin Hood is a 1973 American animated musical adventure comedy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and is based on the English folktale Robin Hood. I watched it when I was very young, but after playing the board game Villainous recently—where Prince John is one of the villains we could play—it made me want to reflect on this animated movie. The use of animal characters makes it easier for children to identify the traits of each character based on the animal representing them.
Does Robin Hood Reflect the Eternal Struggle Between the Rich and the Poor?
As adapted from the folktale, Robin Hood is a story about the struggle between the poor and the rich. This struggle was present in the Middle Ages and still exists today. Some may argue that the poor live an easier life now, mostly due to advancements in technology, yet the gap between the rich and the poor has significantly widened. However, the world is not simply divided into good and evil—manichaeism fails to capture the complexity of reality. Like everything in life, balance and compromise should be possible.
Can Neuroplasticity Help Us Reshape Society?
For this balance to be achieved, we believe the brain and its adaptability are key to creating a more harmonious society. With greater neuroplasticity, individuals can embrace a growth mindset, allowing them to view the world from a different perspective, recognize their own mistakes, and get closer to their true humanity—often hidden behind the walls constructed by education and societal norms.
Who Holds the Responsibility for Change?
This awareness is accessible to anyone, but its impact varies depending on one’s place in society. For those at the top, the challenge lies in using their privileges to build a fairer and non-corrupt hierarchy. On the other end, for those struggling, the challenge is to acknowledge personal responsibility and take action, rather than waiting passively for change.
Why Must Leaders Lead by Example?
Already aware individuals must stand out and lead by example. By demonstrating through their actions how positive change is achievable, they can show that a win-win outcome for everyone is not only possible but necessary.
What do you think? Can individuals truly influence societal balance through awareness and action, or are structural changes beyond personal responsibility the key? Share your thoughts in the comments!
