Perceiving One’s Shadow

The discovery of the StarDust had revealed the existence of a Shadow within every Esper.

Long ago, some philosophers already spoke of the importance of knowing oneself, and Eklea, the Shape of Awareness, believed that what they were truly referring to was this Shadow.

“This Shadow is a part of us. It is neither good nor bad, but it sometimes governs our actions, especially when we are carried away by our emotions.”

“Our daily habits also shape it little by little. That is why we write One Daily Tale: to help Espers around the world understand their Shadow and give them the means to perceive it more easily.”

To do this, developing one’s StarDust by combining, every day and in balance, the five elements representing wisdom, empathy, awareness, health, and willpower is a powerful way to perceive it.

“It takes light to perceive a Shadow. The Shadow within each of us is no exception, and it requires the light of our StarDust…”

Learning to recognize one’s Shadow also helps us understand that others, too, can sometimes be guided by their own Shadow.

But this work is personal. No one can make the effort in someone else’s place. However, we can all lead by example, especially for the younger generation.

    Perceiving the dilemmas

The challenge the Seven Shapes had set themselves was far from simple. Trying to rebuild a civilization after a war that had decimated the population and a large part of the ecosystem seemed an almost insurmountable task. But things had changed, and therein lay the hope for a society finally acting in a modern way.…

    Against the Current

Making the right choices is not often easy. Especially when the almost insurmountable flow of society as a whole imposes a vision from which it is difficult to break free. Is There Really a Need?

The period of abundance brought about by the massive and limitless use of magic had come to an end. Not by choice, as might have happened if the Espers had managed to agree on difficult questions, such as the consequences of their actions on Aether, the planet’s source of life, or the inequalities caused by…

    Interdependence in a Limited World

The Seven Shapes had clearly understood that, in order to rebuild Esperia, everyone’s efforts would be necessary, whatever their element. The period preceding the War of Chaos had developed, throughout all the elemental lands, the understandable but fruitless feeling that the fault always lay with others and that making efforts oneself only meant putting oneself…

    Taking Mental Health Seriously

If there is one thing that is difficult for the Espers to do, it is to properly take into consideration everything that is not visible to their eyes: the future rather than the present moment, the system as a whole rather than their personal situation, the general Shadow of their entire civilization… And mental health…

    Recognizing Your Own Faults

For the Espers, managing to recover the artifact of lightning, the spark of thunder, was perhaps the most difficult ordeal for most of them. To do so, they had to cross a region known as the thunderstruck plains, where Aether had accumulated and given birth to a place where lightning struck randomly and without interruption.…

Listening to Others and Listening to Yourself

The Espers were, all things considered, rather curious beings. Their history, spanning several tens of thousands of years, had led them, not without difficulties, to control their planet, to the point of being capable of impacting its global ecosystem. The discovery and use of magic had accelerated the evolution of their civilization, but they also…

A World That Has Become Ultra-Complex

The civilization of the Espers had been built over thousands of years, and for a newborn discovering the world, this meant trying to make connections between billions of objects and increasingly complex and abstract systems, in which billions of individuals were put to work, while no one could fully understand how they functioned anymore. And…
