The Chaos War

It took quite a long time before the Shape of Balance, Atma, and the meaning behind the word “Balance” finally became one of the accepted and evident keys to harmony in Esperia.

In principle, it’s simple! In a world with limited resources, there is a clear need for restraint among the living beings who share, with every other living being, a common environment—and a common planet.

But of course, it’s not that easy.

Why would a certain elemental Esper restrain their use of magic if the others don’t?

Before the land of Esperia finally stabilized into the peaceful world we know today, the Five Elements and their Espers were locked in constant, endless battles. Yet the Elements were all equal in power…

Because they were parts of the unique and brilliant light called the StarDust, which had not yet appeared at that time.

This war was fought for thousands of years, and would later be known as “The Chaos War.”

Whether they wanted it or not, every new Esper brought into the world was part of a whole: a family, a clan, an elemental region, the civilization of the Espers as a whole… Until very recently, it had been inconceivable for Espers of different elements to even attempt to communicate with one another. Simply because…

    The Shadow of Consciousness

Every Esper had this Shadow within them, which acted in their place whenever they failed to act consciously. The Shadow of Empathy

If there is one Shadow that causes a great deal of harm, whether on an individual scale or on a broader scale, it is surely that of Empathy. It often takes control of behavior when emotions speak for themselves: anger, fear, suspicion. It is often said that the beings who can hurt us the most…
