Values

What we come to see as “good” values and the proper behaviors to follow are learned throughout our lives. As children, we naturally mimic the actions and thoughts we observe — through the words and gestures of our parents, siblings, teachers, or friends we play with.

When we are still very young, we hold no bias toward anything. That is the magic of childhood — a time when children can play freely with anyone, regardless of race, gender, or social status.

As we grow, we begin to understand what our families and societies expect from us. We realize that some behaviors are more rewarded than others. We learn that religions exist, and that in the modern world, the most powerful force often reigns supreme in determining whether we can survive: money.

Yet the values that tend to be rewarded do not always align with what truly deserves to be praised — such as caring for our environment and nurturing our minds.
