A desperate situation

For the purpose of the day’s lesson, Faya asked the Espers to think of a desperate situation in which their lives would be on the line.

Some thought of being badly wounded after a fierce magical conflict. Others imagined themselves trapped on a deserted island, with no possible use of magic and only limited resources.

Faya would say, “The goal here is to focus on what you would be able to do in such situations.”

“What do you mean?”

“Normally, when your life isn’t at stake, you don’t naturally use everything you are capable of. This is how we work.”

“But when a situation becomes desperate, those restrictions are lifted, because you have no other choice—your life is in danger.”

“So, should we put ourselves in such situations to grow?” asked a slightly frightened Esper.

“This is a great question. Now that Esperia is at peace, such situations won’t happen every morning. But if you remember that your willpower develops much more when you are cornered, you may be more willing to try new challenges and confront adversity.

    A Difficult Future

Vangel, our little dog friend of the Fire element, gazed deeply into the future that The Seven Shapes were trying to create through One Daily Tale. “This is a task that seems so difficult…” he thought. The discovery of the StarDust had led the Espers to take a closer interest in how to develop it. Cha Cha, our dear little platypus friend, was discussing one of his theories with Guruko. “When you think about a relationship on equal terms, we don’t usually think about comparing individuals from different countries. We often remain focused on a given country, often the one of our birth.” he thought. “Isn’t that normal? Many people…

    Without Discrimination

Can we truly speak of equality of opportunity at birth when the place and conditions in which one is born vary greatly from one region of the planet to another? This was the reflection upon which Vati, the Shape of Wisdom, had been focusing. The end of the War of Chaos had revealed that the…

    Homeostasis

The self-regulation of organisms, which tends to bring them back to a state of balance when there is a fluctuation in levels, is now well understood. Thus, excesses — whether too much or too little — are detected, and systems are set in motion to return to a balanced value beneficial to the continuation of…

    Once in a Lifetime

What image comes to mind when you think of the expression “once in a lifetime”? A beautiful encounter, a new beginning, perhaps an unexpected event. On Esperia, the notion of time was not so different from that on Earth. But the presence of Shala, the Shape of Time, had gradually changed the Espers’ approach to…

    For a Common Goal

On paper, everything seemed clear and obvious. At least, for those who had taken the time to look into the problem. And that is no doubt where the root of the lack of cohesion for a common goal lies. Who truly took the time to look into the problem? To do so, one must first…
