A Sick Society

The world before the Chaos War displayed many symptoms of a sick society, rotten to the core with heightened individual desires.

A world where appearances and showing off were the values held up for admiration.

Only visible results seemed to matter, regardless of effort or even truth.

A realization that sends shivers down the spine, especially for the youngest, who are often still quite naive about the world in which they must live, and in which they must participate despite themselves.

Playing the game proposed by society meant going against values that nevertheless seemed right when one stopped to think about them, even for a moment.

Being grateful for the natural resources provided by the planet, living modestly, and appreciating simple things. So many behaviors that were becoming increasingly out of step with a society devouring everything in its path.

But it was also in this context that the first seeds of hope for a more harmonious future world were planted…

    The Basic Needs

Kenko, the Shape of Health, was certain of one thing: unless the basic needs of the Espers were made a priority, Esperia would never know true peace. The right to proper sleep, and access to healthy food and clean water for all, were the very first steps toward creating a harmonious society. These fundamentals were…

  • Moderation

    Moderation

Before the end of the Chaos War, the concept of moderation scarcely existed among the Espers. This…

    Values

What we come to see as “good” values and the proper behaviors to follow are learned throughout our lives. As children, we naturally mimic the actions and thoughts we observe — through the words and gestures of our parents, siblings, teachers, or friends we play with. When we are still very young, we hold no…

    A Limit to Willpower

Faya, the Shape of Willpower, often used comparisons to explain the principles she had to teach. For willpower, her element of fire offered an easy image to grasp—one that clearly showed how willpower has its limits. To keep a fire alive, you need the right amount of fuel. If the fire burns too fiercely, it…
