Different Levels of Consciousness

If the causes leading to this realization were many and varied, the result was undeniable: not all the Espers possessed the same level of consciousness.

Taking the case of a single individual, their awareness of the world around them begins in childhood, with the education they receive from a very young age. As the years pass, that consciousness will mature—or not—depending on the experiences they accumulate and their personal journey.

Not everyone is therefore equal when it comes to consciousness, because its level changes over time, through lived experiences, and through knowledge of the world.

Indeed, the existence of the five elements on Esperia was the result of countless conflicts that had shaped territories now divided into five, while causing smaller or less developed tribes to disappear along the way.

Some knowledge was still too recent for the Espers to fully assimilate: this requires an awakening of consciousness, which is personal and therefore greatly differs from one individual to another.

Understanding the planet’s physical limits, the way belief in certain shared myths had shaped this civilization, or even that, although there are five different elements, each is merely one part of a greater whole—the civilization of the Espers—all of this knowledge had still not been integrated by the majority of minds.

The end of the War of Chaos, with the discovery of the StarDust, was perhaps at last the long-awaited moment to build a civilization that was consistent with this knowledge.

At first glance, this was, in any case, the seemingly utopian goal of the Seven Shapes when they decided to work together and write One Daily Tale.
