Fair Judgment

To rebuild Esperia on healthy foundations for all, it had become clear that it was necessary to reach a fair judgment of what is good and what is bad.

“Easier said than done…” thought the Espers who had already reflected on this, yet also saw this idea as utopian and unrealistic.

Vati, the Shape of Wisdom, understood this very well. Being herself of the element of Water, she had inevitably been influenced by the customs and ways of her element.

Moreover, as the Five Elements had been in conflict for millennia, words such as barbarians or enemies were far more often used to refer to the other elements, rather than companion, friend, or equal.

No one can deny having biases, prejudices, preferences, or subjective opinions.

“But where the difference can be made is in whether one is aware of them or not.”

This is why Eklea, the Shape of Consciousness, can help us remember this.

“It is a work to be done on oneself, for it is not natural. Our own survival instinct often pushes us to take sides, and when our emotions speak, very often, our biases are speaking as well.”

“Understanding that it is then our subjectivity that guides us is essential in order to reach a judgment as fair as possible.”
