Overcoming Excessive Individualism

Rebuilding Esperia required rethinking society from a new perspective, sometimes at the risk of questioning certain principles that had become the new foundations of a declining civilisation.

For decades, the advancement of technology through the use of magic had allowed the Espers to become increasingly individualistic. Under the banner of personal freedom, everyone acted more and more as they pleased, increasingly setting aside the concerns of the community and, perhaps most importantly, those of the planet as a whole.

Whether it was condemning individuals coming from other lands without understanding that these population movements were often rooted in deeper causes, such as the phenomenal and grotesque widening of inequalities between the wealthiest, who amassed immense and disproportionate fortunes, and those who still could not afford to eat properly every day.

Alone, of course, no one could change the face of the world.

But there is nevertheless a great difference between turning a blind eye to a reality one understands and trying to take action in one’s own way to address a problem that has now become global.

Sometimes, it begins with a few individuals who, instead of continuing to live in their excessive individualism, finally begin to open their eyes to the reality of the world they live in.
