Taking Responsibility

To avoid involving those close to him in his decision as much as possible, Tsuruko thought the best way was to cut all ties with them.

So he decided to disappear without leaving a trace.

He simply could not bring himself to abandon his research, which was essential for the well-being of every species still living on Esperia: the Espers themselves, as well as every species and creature, some of them still unknown, and of course nature and its entire ecosystem.

He had come to understand the true consequences of modern civilization, and it now seemed impossible for him to turn a blind eye to what they meant for future generations.

The country of the Wind element possessed a magic that made it possible to speak to everyone, and perhaps that was the solution, he thought:

“If I can spread the message of my research, it is not too late to change the course of things…”

As he made his way toward a small boat that would take him there, he heard a familiar voice.

“You’re such an idiot!”

It was Mako, who had understood what he was trying to do.

A small tear rolled down her cheek as they embraced, sharing a moment of mutual relief.

Unfortunately for them, Taseki’s armed forces had already followed them both and were waiting for the right moment to capture them.
