A Magnificent Humanity?

Cha Cha, our little platypus companion, gazed once again into the magic mirror at this unknown civilization, which nevertheless had many things in common with that of the Espers.

This civilization called itself “magnificent.”

But as Cha Cha became more interested in their planet, their history, and their evolution, “magnificent” was not really the word that came to his mind.

The use of that word by someone who seemed to hold a high position in their hierarchy only made him more puzzled.

“Can we truly speak of a magnificent humanity when it is not even capable of getting along with itself, and is also destroying the very planetary ecosystem of which it is a part…“

Cha Cha, who was also developing his own StarDust, knew that it was important to keep the idea of balance in mind, so he tried to think of counterarguments that might lead him to believe this civilization was not simply foolish…

“On an individual level, we often see acts of kindness.”

“And yet, not from everyone, nor toward everyone. There are simply too many arguments pointing to a selfish and destructive civilization…”

But as he compared them with the civilization of the Espers before the present era, before the Seven Shapes and One Daily Tale, he realized something.

“This human civilization also needs to understand one thing. Just as the Espers have their own StarDust, humans also carry something within themselves that resembles it… And they should finally begin to bring it forward…”

    Reflecting on a Global Education

Before the Chaos War, Esperia had never been so divided over matters that, nevertheless, had previously been understood among the five elemental lands. Tensions were rising, trust was at its lowest, between the elements, but also within some of the lands themselves. Inequalities continued to grow between the winners of an exacerbated globalization and those…

    What Do We Really Need?

It was a question that often came up in the debates at the Great Library of Esperia, which, since the end of the Chaos War, had served Espers from all over the world as a place to exchange ideas, discuss, and try to find compromises on difficult issues. The Chaos War had indeed brought to…

Now that the StarDust was better understood, however, it seemed obvious that investing…

    Perceiving Reality

The development of the civilization of the Espers, greatly accelerated by the use of magic for decades, had gradually distanced them from reality. The reality of a physical world with limited resources, shared by everyone. Some indeed believed that by blaming the other elemental regions, or by choosing not to get their own hands dirty…

    In All Simplicity

It is very easy and natural to believe that we are the center of the Earth. And in a society increasingly concerned with individual freedoms, this way of thinking can only spread. Yet it is just as easy to take even a few minutes to reflect on the situation as a whole. By zooming out,…

  • Strength in Unity

    Strength in Unity

The Seven Shapes had become the symbol that there is strength in unity. Each elemental land was represented, and while each element had its strengths and weaknesses, the Espers had understood that the union of the elements could create a force far greater than all of them separately. On an individual level, this developed the…

    Content with the Essentials

Swept up in the whirlwind of everyday life, it is easy to lose sight of what is so often right before our eyes. Magic had made the lives of many Espers far more comfortable than those of even the most powerful kings of times past. But did that mean that all Espers were now happier…
