The use of magic had greatly improved access to healthcare and had, as a result, significantly extended the life expectancy of the Espers in a remarkably short time.
The downside was that the Espers did not seem to have considered the consequences such an achievement would bring.
The settlement of civilization through magic had also drawn the masses away from physical labor, and with longer lives, people’s relationship with loss had created a certain illusion of immortality in some individuals.
While many issues urgently needed to be debated, the pressure placed on the environment by the use of magic by billions of individuals had pushed these ethical questions into the background.
Yet adapting to an ageing population also means confronting these kinds of questions.
The Espers, those beings who had succeeded in mastering the entire planet, no longer seemed capable of discussing matters with one another.
Finding answers to these questions in order to adapt was nevertheless crucial.
For adapting was about to become the defining principle of their civilization, whose use of magic had transformed the planet’s ecosystem for centuries to come…
