Losing Sight of What Matters Most

Simba, our little monkey friend, had roamed across the lands of the different elements.

He had noticed one thing: while the elements differ on paper, the behaviors of the Espers were often the same, regardless of the element.

He could see carefree young Espers, parents worried by the news of the day, disparities between the wealthiest and the poorest…

In recent years, the use of magic had enabled the creation of new forms of entertainment, each more immersive than the last.

And for good reason, they had been designed to capture as much attention as possible, and it worked so well that many Espers had ended up losing sight of what matters most.

They thus tended to let themselves be absorbed by trivial distractions, to the point of forgetting deep aspirations that, nevertheless, give greater meaning to life.

Simba observed with irony how the creators of these new technologies promoted them, while forbidding them to their own offspring…

He would sometimes watch, with a somewhat sad expression, the spectacle of Espers with vacant stares, caught in the spiral of their increasingly personalized entertainments.

And under the guise of a so-called freedom, more and more individuals were losing sight of what matters most: the reality of life.

    Failures

There is a certain irony in how the human brain works: for us to learn and grow, we also need to fail personally. Babies do it naturally when trying to grab objects, sit up, or learn how to walk: they try, fail, try again, fail again… When this was understood by the Espers on Esperia,…

    Empathy

What truly defines us as humans? What sets us apart from other species? Not our physical strength, nor our intelligence. It is our social abilities—our capacity to form groups of many individuals—that have led the human species to eventually dominate the Earth. Empathy is our ability to understand and share the feelings of another. It…
