As was so often the case, the Espers’ lack of self-awareness led them to neglect things that were nevertheless essential, and their own health was one of them.
Many of them did not realise just how much they neglected their physical well-being, of course, but also their mental well-being, by making little effort to look after their health.
The Espers were a species particularly influenced by their senses, especially their sense of sight.
Things they could not see directly were often forgotten or pushed into the background, and society had understood this very well.
By promoting appealing consumer products, it encouraged the naïve Espers to rush towards food products that were nevertheless harmful to their health.
The media, which could have tirelessly emphasised the importance of a healthy, balanced diet, as well as daily physical exercise to strengthen the muscles and the heart, instead constantly repeated stories that fuelled an often unfounded fear of other lands.
Taking care of one’s own health was thus becoming a real uphill battle.
It was in this context that Kenko, the Shape of Health, became, in the eyes of the entire world, the mascot of a healthy and balanced life.
She, along with the other Shapes, had become symbols of Esperia’s renewal.
